The Past Few Months In Photos

It is time to play catch up from the past few month using photos in order from the last blog post till now....

I participated in the Broad Ripple Art Fair Student Sale!

I organized and put on our school's K-8 Art Show. These are some linocut landmark prints from 7th graders! They are pretty talented!

Became a couponer, who gets lots of things for free (but does not store stuff under beds or in kids playrooms like that show...). Thanks to Coupon Pro, Coupon Mom, and Money Saving Mom for getting me started in the right direction and for their updates!

Thanks to them, I am now the proud owner of items like.... 150 boxes of pasta (that I earned $1.50 back when shopping), 32 sticks of deodorant, 25+ boxes of brownies, 43 containers of tic tacs, tooth paste, shampoo, and conditioner for a lifetime and lots more. I have been waiting for my school to host a food drive or something.... I do no need all of this, but it was all FREE! Maybe couponing leads to hoarding....I think both of those shows are on TLC.

Went fishing in St. Petersburg Florida with my husband and two awesome friends!

My sister-in-law got married. I took a photo with a giant yellow pepper!

I became the next American Idol!

Not really, but I had a ton of fun taking photos behind a rear projection screen!

I did eat a lot of crab legs while attending the Home Video Studio Getaway 11 and the "Hanley Awards" in Las Vegas.

Currently I have been adding new Rainbow Crayons to my shop and preparing to go back to school (I am an art teacher).

Whoopd-what? That is right! Whoopdwhoop!

My friend, Jamie, introduced me to a new site (I believe it started in January-ish) that allows users to upload handmade items for trade without exchanging money. You do not even have to trade with the person requesting your item!

There is a credit system (Whoops) used for making trades based on the value and shipping of that item. The amount of Whoops ranges from 1-5 Whoops.

I have only listed one item so far, but I plan to list more once I get the hang of things.

My Newest Crafting Project!

Today I got up bright and early to give a presentation on "Producing Photo Books" and the Blurb program for Home Video Studio. Ever since I got home, I have been sewing up a storm and waiting for my sister-in-law to arrive. Earlier in the week, I had spent a few hours after school melting down plastic I had collected over the last few weeks in preparation for my new project I have been meaning to try out for the last year.

Today I tested out my pattern for a fused plastic bag lunch sack (the small size) and produce sack (the larger size). They turned out really night and the sewing machine did not screw up on my like it had been when I used it last. Here are some photos of my trials. I am not sure what to charge if I sell them at one of the next 4 craft fairs I have later this month and next, but I was sure happy with the outcome. I would love to know what you think!

Quilting Ideas and Photo Quilts

My great grandparents on my grandmother's side.

This weekend I made a trip to visit my grandmother and continued scanning all the family photos she has. It was amazing to see so many memories from so long ago. I even have pictures of my great, great, great, great grandparents! It is my plan to create a photo quilt of some of the photos and use some fabric from my grandfather's old clothes (he passed away two months ago). I am very excited about printing the photos on the fabric (which is super easy), but a little nervous about starting a quilt since I have never technically quilted.

I think I am going to sew a few border strips around each photo, then the squares together and keep it simple. Has anyone ever taken their finished top to a fabric or quilt store to have it finished with the batting and stitching on top? Do they use a clear thread? Anyone have any good quilting sites or locations around Indianapolis, IN to go to for these services?

Any help, tips, or suggestions would be great! I will keep everyone updated with my progress!

I love using Craft Cult's site for a variety of things Etsy! I am especially loving their treasury widget. This new tool allows one to search all the Treasuries they are in or they have made, customize the look, and get an html code to post on their website or blog.

DIY: Mittens from Recycled Wool Sweaters

Over the holidays, I wanted to make something fun, useful, and something I was NOT planning on selling on Etsy. I wanted a simple gift for friends and family that I could make without spending a ton of money, but super creative at the same time.

I remembered that I had purchased the warmest, and best made recycled mittens at a local holiday boutique this past November. I wanted to learn how to make them myself, so I Googled the project and found some helpful sites.

The best site, instructions, and video came from Studio 5. They also provided the pattern.

*I suggest cutting the pattern a little longer/bigger than the pattern or else they will not be long enough for all hands, but you can tweak the pattern to your needs.*

I live in a nicer part of town, so the Goodwill I visited had 1 Wool Sweater for me to buy and felt. That was a little disappointing. I am learning that tons of people are felting wool and making similar items, so they were fresh out of recycled materials I needed. With the help of my friend, Jamie, I was able to find 7 sweaters at another Goodwill a week later!

My first few pairs I only made one or two minor mistakes (having the wrong side of the cuff facing out, making the mitten too small, etc), but each pair of gloves I made are wearable and no one would notice that I made any mistakes at all unless I pointed them out. I only wound up with one extra fleece insert (that I am going to use as a dust rag) when I was not paying attention to the previous position of the insert.

Overall a great experience and only spent about 1/2 Hour-45 minutes on one pair. A big thanks to my mother-in-law, who provided me with thread, patience, and her sewing machine.

November Already?!

I cannot believe how quickly this year had flown by! Where did September and October go? Well, it is time to play catch up in my blogging and share some photos with you!

Here is a photo of my pumpkin this year. Can you guess what the art is supposed to resemble? Too bad I did not get a photo of it lit up....or even a chance to put a candle in it. It molded 2 days later!

I had an after school workshop for pumpkin carving with linoleum tools for grades 4-7. Here is a pumpkin from a 6th grader, which I LOVED! The kids had a blast. My second workshop for october was tie-dye pumpkin shirts (and have about 50+ students attend. So much for my "only the first 30 accepted," but I hate turning kids away.

For Halloween I was Lady Gaga. I bought a wig and made a dress out of bubble wrap! I had a ton of fun and got honorable mention at a costume contest!

Today I went shopping at a local craft fair! I never get to shop, or at least take my time and shop for fun since I have signed up for about 10 shows total this season. It was nice to buy some fun items! Take a look at my purchases!

These Owls are a HOOT! The artists did not put their name on any of the tags, but they are so cute, I had to take a photo with my webcam!

I am in huge need of soap (Do not worry, I have been using soap, but it has been my husband's Axe body wash, which smells good, but I needed a change-Ha!), so I bought this REALLY good smelling Cranberry Yuzu bar from "Get Lathered." You will be able to buy your own bar too at the Hoosier Artisan Boutique where we will both have a booth on November 27 in Noblesville, IN. I cannot stop smelling it!

Well... It Was Not Quite Moby Dick...

The last three days have been the longest ever while I participated in the "Whale of a Sale" Children's Consignment Event in Zionsville. While the children and baby items were a great deal if you have kids, it was not a huge catch for me and far from the "Moby Dick" I was expecting. For those of you "crafters and artists" out there who participate in shows and events, I am sure going to have a hard time from now on, participating in any type of show that is not specifically an art, craft, or holiday boutique. Here are a few photos I took...

I LOVE Vera Bradley! I for the big bag for only $7.50 and the small purse for $5!

They were almost brand new!

I bought this super cute hat from Two Seaside Babes and the necklace from MadrinDesigns! Oops...I think I left the tag on all day... My husband loves the hat!

The photos below are some of the gorgeous work of MadrinDesigns. Each time I visited her booth, I saw something new that I had not seen the first time. She creates her unique pieces with a vintage-modern flair and floral theme.

My favorite part was looking at all the talent and meeting new people. I had many good things come from talking with other vendors and artists these past three days and am glad things worked out the way they did!

Two New Treasuries

I am always impressed with the talent when I attend this show as a vendor and am honored to have my Jumbo Heart Rainbow Crayons chosen among these wonderful handmade items.

Carnival Open House Wrap Up and Craft Fairs!

After two busy weeks of crafting, I am finally sharing some photos from the BRAND PHOTODESIGN Open House Event last weekend! As an added note, my photos will not do theirs justice, so I am excited for when they will post the event photos!

I was kind enough to be invited as part of the planning process for this event! I was in charge of the "Arts and Crafts Area" where Art Lessons and Parties by Nicole Lewis and my Rainbow Crayons were featured. Debbie with Table Tops for Tots provided the cutest child-friendly chairs and tables for my Rainbow Crayon area where families could try out my newest Rainbow Crayon shapes and sizes!

Descriptions and examples of Private Art Lessons...

Jamee with Setting the Mood is a special event design and decor specialist. Her work is so stunning that words cannot describe (so check out the latest parties and events she has designed...including a candy bar and a Confessions of a Shopaholic party). She created everything you see in the photos that was carnival themed. If you attended, she was the wonder-women behind the food counter setting out and cooking all the delicious treats!

The event was AMAZING with tons of free food, games, and prizes. We even had an indoor bounce house and cotton candy station! Dan and Brooke Brand are amazing photographers and I was very impressed with their photography, professionalism, and facility. I look forward to working with them in the future both with my art, and future photography needs!

Snail Mail Still Exists!

Happy Friday and three-day weekend!

I am curious to know how many out there still send snail mail? I sure do because it is so much more personalized when you actually receive a piece of mail from someone (that is not the constant junk mail and bills we get all the time). The mail would be so much nicer without the bills and junk mail, right?!

Today I introduced my newest gocco greeting card, the "Artsy Alphabet." I personally love this drawing and design I created since I am both a teacher and an artist. Back to School and a Fresh Start!

After a short blogging break, I am back and feeling great!

Today marks Day#2 at my new school and I am having a blast! I spent all June cleaning out shelves and cabinets, organizing supplies, and setting up my room. This made for an easy start this past week for me. I think I have this back to school thing down to a science because I have had several classrooms to clean out and organize over the past years...

Here are some photos of what my room looked like to start...

By the end of the week, I will post what the room looks like now! I am happy with the "final" product and excited for a great school year!

Are your kids back to school? My husband is a teacher as well, but he started at the END OF JULY!!!!!! That is nuts! Many states do not go back to school until after Labor Day, but at least I will get out in May.

I love the art of Dale Chihuly!

Last week, my mom and I went to the Indianapolis Children's Museum. It had been years since she had been there (they have changed a lot) and we wanted to see the Barbie exhibit (Barbie and my mom were born the same day). I did not realize that mom never saw the "Fireworks of Glass" sculpture in the museum, so we had a ton of fun taking pictures and looking at the ceiling. We even got a little creative! What a busy weekend! Where did my summer go???

MY BIRTHDAY, MY FAVORITES
Saturday was my birthday! I spend a nice day with my grandparents, then dinner with my husband and parents at the Melting Pot! Has anyone ever eaten there before? It is AMAZING! Fondue is so much fun!

In celebration of my birthday, I am sharing some of my recent Etsy favorites that I would want for my birthday! Are you a shop that is a favorite item of mine?

MY WEDDING ALBUM IS HERE!

I am so excited that I got my wedding album done (one year later). For those of you who missed the story about my computer crashing and losing my photos, etc, etc... you will be happy to know that it is done now. I had gotten through about 60% of the album before I lost all my work. I am in need of a back up drive (which is my birthday present to myself this week) just in case that ever happens again! Luckily, a shop on the northside of Indy called Elan, was able to restore my computer to something functional and "new" even though I lost everything.

To make my album, I used Blurb, a site that lets you create and publish your own books. I have such a nice album with a hardcover, image wrap. The quality is great! It is the same company I used to make my two books about Artist Trading Cards. The second edition is still available in my Etsy shop! It is great that we can now DIY when getting wedding albums because I got about 350 pictures I loved in the 120 page book. If I would have bought from a photographer, it would cost about $200-300 per album and only about 20 photos. I took two really cheese photos with my PhotoBooth program, so the quality of the photo is not great, but I like including spontaneous photos in my posts.

WORLD CUP AND INFOOR SOCCER CHAMPIONS!

A shout out to our indoor soccer team, The Unusual Suspects, who won their first division championship in about 3 years! This is the most expensive t-shirt I have ever bought! We have always been awesome, but are always in 2nd or 3rd place. We really were awesome this session and only to get better as some of our injured players come back to the team next session. For the month of July, I have chosen to advertise with Etsy Item of the Day! I always read her site and check out her awesome findings most days and wanted to be a part of her site. I first learned about this site when our T-Shirt Memory Blankets were featured as the Item of the Day.

I am happy she chose to feature our blankets! With the blanket in Twilight Eclipse, I expect many people to want to give the same gift to their kids, graduates, and family. I was so excited to see the blanket in the movie!

We have made it to July. In teacher mode, that means I only have one month left of break just about. You know... after spending so much time talking about schools cutting art jobs and myself getting cut from a past position I had for three years, I forgot to announce something big...

I HAVE A TEACHING JOB!

It is at a Catholic school, but only part time, which might be nice for a change. I have a great room and even a SMARTBoard again (I had worked so hard so fundraise for my last SMARTBoard and create my presentations and lessons, I am glad to have one again)!

I think over the last three weeks I have spend about 6 or 7 days j

ust taking everything out of shelves, seeing what is usable, and reorganizing. I had to rush the last day to get things put on shelves at least temporarily because July is cleaning month!

I took some pictures of what my classroom looked like when I first walked in (including everything from the teacher's lounge piled in on the tables). I have a customer and school parent to thank for letting me know about this job when she was chatting with me at the Broad Ripple Art Fair, so THANKS!

Photos are taken from the entryway (looking into the Kiln room across the hall, then panning left to right. There are tons of things that are not mine, but you can see what I first was working with! Where to start....

Advertising: Love It or Hate It?

Today I figured I would talk about advertising a bit and share some links with you. This is an area that I am not the best with and am pretty picky about where I advertise. In the past, I have used Project Wonderful, CraftCult, and soon will be advertising with Etsy Item of the Day.

I have found the most success with CraftCult, but keep in mind that this site is pretty much seen by only sellers on Etsy. I found that I got a pretty nice increase in traffic and hearts the two times that I have used CraftCult. The site operators are very quick to respond and the pricing is fair in my opinion. I usually purchase the $15 for 7 days. I have found that when I see new ads, I click on them, but when it is a shop that has purchased the 4 week ads and I see them over and over, my eye tends to skip over the ad. Have you used CraftCult before? What do you think?

I just sent my payment to advertise on Etsy Item of the Day. Jackie, who operates this site and is responsible for finding all the awesome items and features, has been wonderful to work with in the past when I was featured (check out the sidebar box to the right of this post)! I will update when I hopefully start to see some traffic coming in! Have you been featured on Etsy Item of the Day before? Have you advertised on this site?

Project Wonderful is a great site as well. Sometimes it works for you, sometimes it does not. I personally have not tried full force to advertise using PW, but I have PW space available on my blog in two spots that people seem to get a great response from (at least those who have advertised with me and shared).

In addition to offering Project Wonderful advertising, I am starting to use Etsy minis to advertise on my other blog, Art Lessons and Parties by Nicole. I set up this blog to begin offering art lessons, workshops, and birthday art parties.

A Week in Review: Favors, Tie Dying, and Craft Night!

What a busy week! Check out these awesome things I did!!

RAINBOW CRAYON WEDDING FAVORS

On Monday and Tuesday, I finished up several Rainbow Crayon wedding favor orders. The colors for one wedding I was creating favors for were tangerine, magenta, and lime! How fun! Here is a photo of some of the Rainbow Crayons!

TIE DYE T-SHIRTS

Wednesday was full of art! I tied-dyed some t-shirts to try some new dyes. I have always used RIT dye, but it always fades and washes out. I went a different route this time and tried the Jacquard Tie Dye kit I bought at JoAnn Etc (see photo/link below).

This kit worked sooooo much better and the dye stayed in. We dyed the shirts, left them bundled (and rinsed the shirts till the water ran more clear), then washed them in the bundles in the washing machine with soap. I guess that is the correct way to do it. I did see where you should leave the dye in for 24 hours on other sites I searched, but I decided to follow the directions of the kit. We also pre-soaked the shirts in soda ash for 20 minutes before we tie dyed. What dyes or techniques have you used???

I was a little concerned that if I washed this shirts right away, that ALL the dye would come out. Nope! They turned out great!

CRAFT NIGHT

I have seen all these posts for Etsy Craft Parties, so I decided to start a Craft/Art Night! I figured, why do crafts just on one day of the year like Etsy is promoting?! It happens to be Etsy's Birthday on June 18th, the day they are suggesting others to throw a craft party, but I want to do it all summer!

I organized my first Craft Night, which met last Wednesday with a great turn out! The craft or theme for the first night was Lino-Cut Greeting Cards. I have so much fun carving stamps and art out of the soft-cut linoleum that I wanted my friends to try! Some of them were a little nervous to do this for the first time, but everyone had a blast! Here are some photos that show all the fun we had and the outcome!

Monograms were a popular design for greeting cards. Artists had to remember to write/carve the letters backwards in order for the card to read correctly.

Gallery 116 in Fishers

I made one of my weekly post office runs today and on the way home I visited Gallery 116 in Fishers to drop off some Rainbow Crayon samples. They had seen some of my items back in December at the Hoosier Artisan Boutique, so I figured now would be a good time to drop by now that the school year is over.

Gallery 116 is such an awesome place to buy gifts. The shop is an old house, each room with a different look or variety of art and gifts. The ladies who run the store were very helpful and friendly too!

What did I buy? A REALLY yummy smelling candle that my husband will love because it is coconut and pineapple scent (he loves anything beachy or tropical). The candle was created by Brown's Accents in Attica, IN (See the crazy picture above).

Gallery 116 also has a class schedule for adults (which I may be a future part of).

Gardens Galore: My Gardening Experience So Far...

ABOVE: A Garden Inspired Treasury on Etsy Inspired by the Garden!

I am really excited to show you photos of my "garden." I put "garden" in quotes because yes, it is a garden, but I am still in the learning stages. Last year we had only a container garden and had pretty good luck. This year, I did a little science experiment to see if veggies would have enough sun to grow in the ground at the side of my house. I decided to do both this year and took some photos to show how they have been doing after a month. The ground plants were more mature than the container plants, so there is a difference as it is, but the ground plants are growing and look much more healthier.

You can also see my strawberries attacking my Rhubarb. I was able to get a good amount of strawberries about 3 times so far (every 2 days I pick), but now something is getting to them and they are quite small.

I did see a chipmunk and a new hole in my mulch. Anyone know what I should do about this? I hope the chipmunks do not eat my veggie plants when they start growing actual vegetables! I need chipmunk help!!!

Wow... Have I been busy! It has been quite some time since I have been on here, but now that there are only three more days left of school, I can start my regular blogging again.

As an update on job front, my art position at my two elementary schools did get cut, so I have been on the Art teaching job hunt. I have applied for several, but teaching jobs in Indiana are becoming few because of the lack of funding everywhere. For now, I started a blog for private art lessons, Art Parties, and workshops. It is very rough right now, but it will help a little while I am looking for a job. Please send good thoughts my way if you can.... it is sure hard to be a teacher these days! http://art2theextremeparty.blogspot.com/

Since I wrote last, I have participated in two craft/art fairs that were very successful. The first was the Bloomington Handmade Market, a group of Indiana Etsy members of the INCrowd team. I always enjoy selling and buying in Bloomington, IN because it is such a great community of artists, shops, and restaurants.

The Broad Ripple Art Fair sponsored by the Indianapolis Art Center was also last weekend. This art fair is one of the largest and most well-known in Indiana. This was my first time selling there as a student and this was my best show yet! I also ran into a fellow vendor friend, The Binding Bee, who had a successful time as an outdoor vendor as well.

At the show, I bought some awesome things from this AMAZING teen artist Gregory Dugdale. He was selling his jewelry, greeting cards, art, and tie-dye t-shirts like crazy. I bought some earrings and my new favorite tie-dye shirt from him for a great price. He has even sold tie-dye shirts to Rupert from Survivor! I do not think he has a website, but you can contact him at Effie2@aol.com.

I am doing an outdoor show/open house next week in Broad Ripple with a few ladies that should be awesome!

I feel bad for the kids because "they" are saying... "It is best for the students.." What? To not have art, music, or PE? To not have councilors at schools? At least my corporation is not cutting specials across the board, but that does not help my situation...

I am in great spirits despite the news. I am just so darn ready for warm weather in Indiana and for my Spring Break Cruise!

Tonight I am sharing another great site with you that I discovered in the Etsy forums, craftcount.com. The following was taken from the site creator's forum thread...

"I’m delighted to finally introduce you to Craft Count, a site tracking Etsy top sellers by sales count. The landing page features a summary with the top 10 sellers in the 3 main Etsy categories; Handmade, Vintage, Supplies and an additional list to capture the top 10 overall. Tab 2 and 3 portrays the sellers by Country and Category respectively. I’ve restricted the information to capture sellers with over 1000 sales and the top 100 in the sub-categories."

There are several sites that show top selling crafters and shops, but this one is very well organized, up to date, and you can search different categories and lists to find the top sellers on Etsy in your area without all the supply people getting in the way (no offense).

WOW! When I was exploring and reading Twitter two nights ago, I looked up people who Re-Tweeted posts of mine and I found the coolest website for those who love Etsy!

The site is called Etsy Item of the Day and it was created by Jackie, who is not affiliated with Etsy or any of the shops of Etsy. She just loves to "Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade," according to her site!

What caught my attention first was the very appealing background (teal is my favorite color) and the simple, short, but sweet posts. One item a day is featured with a short blurb about the item and why she likes it. The items chosen are photographed well, so one could understand why these items have been featured!

I have personally added this blog to my lists of blogs to read each day because Jackie has made it very easy to read and get information to readers. Please take the time to check out this AWESOME site!

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT! : All About Newsletters

In 2010 I am becoming more organized and have always wanted to try out a newsletter. Today, I did just that and I am excited to show you what I have found and created!

I first was inspired by TimothyAdamDesigns and his newsletter. He always has so many great tips and links. His e-mail I get is just text and links, so I wanted a little more color and pizzaz to mine since I am artsy and funky anyways.

I went to the Etsy forums and looked up a thread started by etsian, thecyclingartist, about newsletters and mailing lists. I hate using the word mailing list because it sounds like spam and ads. This is not want I want to see or read all the time if I am being picky about which newsletters I am signing up for.

In this thread, I founds two great sites to create a newsletter. Mad Mimi was the first mentioned. While it looks very cool and there were good reviews about it, I wanted something free to start off with to make sure I would stick with a newsletter and learn how to reach my audience. Their site starts off at $8 a month for the same amount of contacts I could have at Mail Chimp, which is the site I am using.

I have found Mail Chimp to be pretty easy to use once I poked around for an hour or two and sent myself a test newsletter. I am able to link my twitter and allow readers to share the newsletter via Facebook and other social networking sites! Now I am ready to send out my first newsletter, which will be bi-monthly and focus on featured artists, Etsy news, tips, and deals!

If you are choosing to create a newsletter or mailing list, there are a few rules and laws you must follow and can be found at the FTC site for the CanSpam Act Laws. Please take a look at these and make sure your newsletters follow the few, but simple laws.

I will be updating this post as I learn more about newsletters and read comments and suggestions from you!

FALL-ing Back into Blogging...

Once again I have taken a hiatus in blogging, but now that the school year is rolling along again, I can return my focus to the blog. Thanks to those who have come back to visit despite my absence.

Happy Saturday! I am excited for today because I am going to a farmer's market, "Taste Of" event, and then the Symphony outdoors. It is the last weekend before my husband goes back to school (teacher as well). I start my teacher meetings next week, with kids on the 10th! Yikes!

Also, a shout out to my dad on his birthday. I am not sure if he reads my blog, but we will sure find out now won't we?! He leaves for Vegas today for his yearly convention for company he is president of. I could use a vacation...

Anywho...

I now have my Fall/Halloween line of Jumbo Rainbow Crayons in my shop for your viewing and shopping pleasure. There are sooo many people having Fall weddings, eco-friendly wedding, Halloween parties, you name it. These crayons make perfect favors or treats to hand out!

I wanted to share my newest item to my Etsy shop! This is a ceramic heart platter/plate made from stoneware clay and food safe glaze. The pattern was created with a hand made rolling stamp! I just love the design.

MOO Business Cards

MOO is giving away 50 free business cards until supplies run out. I LOVE these, even though normally they can be pricey. The only "bad" thing about the promo is that MOO adds a small strip of advertisement at the bottom of your image. I just spaced the info side out so I could cut off that part.

I have blogged about MOO before and some samples of past cards here. I was new to them back then, so they might not be that great...

They are so useful for other things...

Cafe Handmade

In looking into my Project Wonderful blog advertising/sponsors, I came upon Cafe Handmade. I have not looked into it too much, but they have these really neat spaces you can purchase for Virtual Craft Shows. The pricing is not bad either!

Facebook Fan Pages

I am still comprising a list of YOUR Facebook fan pages! If you have not taken the time to visit this thread, check it out and post your link! We have about 100 shops already listed!

DO NOT JUST FAN AND RUN.... becoming a pet peeve of many of us Etsians. It does not work that way... Commit to it and take time to comment on other pages. Then karma will play its way to you and it will have a snowball effect from there!

Weddings, Photos, and More!

I have been wanting to share some sample photos that my photographer, Erin Hession, blogged about after my wedding! She takes such wonderful photos and provides such a nice variety of styles to choose from. I cannot wait to see ALL of the photos, but I picked out some of my favorites to share with you! The above is my favorite by far!!!!

I highly suggest looking into using Erin Hession Photography. Besides quality work and being very fun, but professional, she has an amazing team and extra bonuses, such as a HUGE bridal emergency kit. There is NOTHING that she does not bring it seems... if you had an emergency. I read in one of her blog posts that she even has extra rings in case they are lost (which has happened before). She is one of the nicest people I have met and the best in the business. I cannot wait to use her in the future for other events and family photos!!!

My brother-in-law gave the best speech, relating it to the Top 10 on ESPN Sports Center with moments from Eric's life. Eric and I are laughing about the time he threw up in a shoe.

I made my own wedding favors (you can also order/purchase in my shop)! What a great picture with our rings!

Today I wanted to share some special links with you, as well as talk a little about Facebook!

Socialmention.com

WOW! I was in the forums the other day and cam across a site called Socialmention.com.

This site allows you to search a name, term, shop, anything. It will come up with as many sites as it can where that search term was listed or mentioned, along with some statistics. I have already found two awesome reviews or "Social Mentions" by searching my Etsy name, Art2theextreme.

The Nurishing Mom's blog had ordered Rainbow Crayon party favors and said some really nice words about my shop and product, along with a picture of the favors they took. I would not have even seen this post without searching on Social Mention.

The IN Crowd Team (Indiana) on Etsy featured a T-Shirt Memory Blanket listing with the information also posted to share with others.

There are several sites that do similar things, but this is the most useful site I found because it is somewhat thorough and gives statistics and feedback. Try it out for yourself HERE! Let me know what you think!

Did YOU jump on the Facebook Fan Page bandwagon yet? I finally did, though I was hesitation to do so because it is just another thing to update and follow with my busy schedule, but I care about my Etsy shop, so I did... Not only did I make 1 page... I made 2!!!! Yikes!

My birthday was about two weeks ago, but I wanted to share the gift that my husband gave me!

He was so cute, trying to sneak on my Etsy account to order. It is too bad the purchase shows up in the feedback and the seller e-mailed me instead of the directions to e-mail him.

THE ORIGINAL HANDWARMER MUG!

WOW!

Yesterday , I was working on burnishing a piece of pottery for a raku fire at the Indianapolis Art Center and I wanted to stop by the gift shop and take a look.

They lady working inside the shop was so nice and helpful and I remembered what a nice place it was to shop at. A pair of earrings caught my eye (which I later purchased) and this Handwarmer Mug (what I am featuring today). Right away I was mesmerized by the colorful glaze and surprisingly perfect grip of the mug. It was the perfect size!

Since I am on a mug kick, I was wondering how it was made and very impressed by the style. I usually say to myself, "Oh, well I will just try to make something similar myself," but this style I cannot pass up (Do not get any bright ideas Etsians.... this is patented!). I like to collect mugs from other ceramic artists, so I need to purchase one (or more depending on Christmas gifts in the future).

These artists (Clay in Motion Pottery Studio) are so smart because they made both right-handed and left handed mugs! I know I will be purchasing several for myself and my family since they are heavy coffee drinkers! These are artists that come out for the local, but WELL-known Broad Ripple Art Fair in the spring each year, so I am sure I will be seeing more of them!

Unique and Colorful Wedding Favors

After getting married about a month ago, as well as attending weddings for the past two weekend, I thought I would discuss wedding favors. There are sooooo many awesome ideas, but if you want something a little more unique, check out the article below!

WEDDING FAVORS

I just finished an order of 50 Jumbo Heart Rainbow Crayons for a July 24th wedding this weekend. I never thought much about using the Rainbow Crayons as wedding favors until Etsy featured my crayons as an awesome Eco-Friendly wedding favor in one of their "Etsy Finds" articles. I always sell larger orders for birthday parties, but boy do I wish I had more kids at my wedding, so I could use my own artistic creation!

I wanted to share some great ways to use Rainbow Crayons in your next wedding or special event!

GREAT USES FOR RAINBOW CRAYONS AS WEDDING FAVORS

1. Use Rainbow Crayons for guests to sign a large canvas or photo matte for a colorful keepsake for you and your loved one to take home and display (I had at least two people do this that I know of and they said it worked out great)!

2. Print off or make wedding coloring pages for kids to place at a coloring station. Use Mini Rainbow Crayons for them to color the pages.

3. Make your own labels with your guests' name and table number and use as their place marker to find their seat. All Rainbow Crayons come in a small zip bag.

**Try punching a hole in the bag and hanging by ribbon in your wedding colors from some branches.

4. The Jumbo Heart Rainbow Crayons are by far, the most popular crayon purchased for a wedding.

These look great displayed in clear jars or sitting nicely at the tables for your guest. We also have Mini Heart Rainbow Crayons as well.

5. Having an artsy wedding? Are you and artist or an art teacher like me?

My Wedding, Honeymoon, Birthday, Funeral, Wedding...

Hello everyone. It has been quite some time, but the craziness is over!

If you had not been reading up to this, I have been away with weddings, funerals, honeymoons, birthdays, and all kinds of eventful things over the past month. Thanks to those who have still been posting, commenting, purchasing, etc. during my absence.

I figured I would update today with some pictures of what I have been up to!

First, on June 20th, I got married! The day was SO perfect and not a single things went wrong the entire day. We were so lucky for blue skies as well, because earlier in the week, it said rain. We had such an awesome photographer as well, Erin Hession, who takes the best photos. In fact, she even had 8 photos printed and ready for us to take home about an our into the reception!!! I am still very patiently waiting for her to post some on her popular blog, but seeing how it is summer, she is very busy and backed up. Still, at least there is something for me to look forward to this summer since all that is left really is the start of school on August 6th-ish (husband starts on the 3rd... .isn't that nuts?!).

Here are some of the photos from the special day... I do not have much yet...

For our honeymoon, we went to Sanibel Island in Florida since the whole swine flu incidents in Mexico. The good/bad news is now we have 800 plane flights that we have to use up in the next 6 months to Mexico or we do not get any of the money back (they refunds did not go though June...). Now we will just take a second trip. I love to travel, so I do not mind spending the money, but I really should be saving now...

Here are some fun photos from the honeymoon including deep sea fishing, a 6 foot by 8 foot sand art of my own version of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night I made from things on the beach (seaweed, shells, sea plants, etc.) and took me 3 hours to make,... oh and fun food photos!

Two days ago, I also celebrated my 24th birthday. Eric takes me to Benihana every year and we always have a blast. 24 Was not too exciting, but I enjoyed spending time with him and I also got to visit my grandparents with my mom earlier that day.

Yesterday, we went to the memorial service for my grandfather, who passed away last March. Most of the family had to come from far, so we waited until now to have a service. It was bitter sweet, but nice to see all of the family together again. I do not think everyone will ever get together like that, since Grandpa Hanley was the one to bring us all together...

Ironically, the night ended with the wedding of a co-worker or Erics, which happened to be very close to the city we were already in for the service. Her dress was soooo pretty and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Eric and I did not stay long since we did not know a single person besides the bride and groom, plus we had a drive back.

That is all that has really been up lately... I had some large orders of Rainbow Crayons come in for some children's wedding favors for a wedding next week. Boy, if I had any children attend my reception, I would have been set with the perfect wedding favor for them and a way for the kids to stay entertained by coloring with a Rainbow Crayon!

New Raku Pendant

This morning I want to share my newest listing with you!

This is a raku ceramic pendant I created. What is nice about Raku is that the color of the glaze always looks different based on the light and what color it is up against. Below are two photos of the same pendant with natural light (the brown image) and then a lamp near it (the green image).

I just read a really great Etsy forum by CatherinetteRings about Twitter. You can go visit this forum here, or read below because I will shorten with links for you.

I just tried many of these (I did not know they exist) and these applications are GREAT!

1. TWITSEEKER.com

This site is AWESOME because you can look up keywords, then mass follow people who have either tweeted about that keyword or have it in their profile (it lets you choose either option). It also lets you know how many followers they have and you can see information and stats about them. It is really easy and quick without any additional signing up for things. All you need to enter is your Twitter username and password.

2. TWITTERCOUNTER.com

This site is for you to see different stats about your Twitter account. Also, no additional sign ups... just your username and password. I just signed up and it already has stats for me. So easy to use!

3. TWITALYZER.com

This site scores and analyzes you based on your tweets, retweets, following, etc. I am still figuring out what everything means, but is very easy to use. All you have to enter is your Twitter name and it will automatically score you. Pretty interesting stuff....

4.TWEEPULAR.com

This site is fun to look at and has MANY different things you can do! This site is also the best to mass follow or unfollow (if others are not following you back). I suggest you take some time to visit and poke around here! No other sign ups required. Soon, you will also be able to see recent unfollowers.

My Etsy Purchase and Current Favorites

I wanted to share my most recent Etsy purchase with you. After several revisions, comments, and votes. I have decided to go with this for my CraftCult AD. Yes, it might not spell out in words what I sell, but then again, it is along the other lines of the other Ads currently up. It is such a small space as it is and many other sellers just put up a pretty picture of their product. I click... but maybe that is just me.

This AD was created for Craft Cult (Heart-o-Matic) by Etsian bubblegumgardengraphics. This seller was so quick to respond to my questions and had the first draft of the ad created in less than an hour. I think I confused them at first with what I wanted, but they do one revision for you. They were very understanding and worked with me to get the Ad looking how I wanted it to. My advertising will start on Tuesday at craftcult.com! I highly suggest visiting this Etsian's store because I had a great experience!

YAY! Yesterday, I logged in to my Etsy mid-day to find a million convos and a ton of orders! Several kind Etsians had notified me that I had been featured in this Storque article about Eco-Friendly Wedding Finds!

My Rainbow Crayons have been a big hit in the past and still are as it seems. I really needed this publicity with my own wedding coming in 23 days and a few thousand dollars away from my last payment for my reception! This really made my day. Especially Etsians like pinkiekinch, who left very nice comments about my crayons to both myself and the actual article.

Wow... it has been a whole month since I have posted anything. Since school will be out and I have all summer, it is time to get this blog a-moving again!

I wanted to share some new items from my Etsy shop today. It is weird because I listed them yesterday and I feel that it gave my shop a different look all being next to each other. Do you think my shop "look" is different now? Eventually those listings will get mixes in and then it will be back to the "Something for Everyone" craziness that is Art 2 the Extreme, but for now I am happy to have something different in my shop. I AM MORE THAN JUST CRAYONS! Haha... cool crayons though.

Easter was EGG-celent...

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I wanted to share some of my Easter photos with you because I had so much fun coloring Easter eggs! For most of the pictures, all I used was the wax crayons. I would Use the crayon, dip in a light color, use the wax crayon (where ever the wax crayon is, dye will not go), dip in another color, and so on and so forth. That is how I have so many layers of color on my egg.... sorta like batiking... I even used a tie dye egg kit for some!

Anywho, I had a ton of fun! Let me know what you think and what egg is your favorite!

In Memory of Mrs. LAUGH as well as Updates and My First Shop Live Experience!

Hi everyone!

I have not gotten a chance to blog for the last few days because I have been very busy with my teaching and wedding planning, which is good and bad. I also have been bummed lately with the unexpected passing of a fellow staff member of my school who I interacted with pretty much every day I was there. I will call her Mrs. Laugh to respect her privacy and the privacy of her family.

It has been very sad for my staff, her family, and those who knew here. Many students were greatly affected by this news as well. I have fortunately not had to deal with death too many times in my life besides one set of grandparents (my grandfather died last week). It is hard at any age to deal with death and I am not a big fan of the feelings and visuals that come along with funerals. I am not sure anyone is comfortable with those things. Tomorrow is going to be very hard for me to attend the viewing, but I really want some closure and to express my condolences to her family. In her honor, I will be creating an inspirational artwork piece this summer. I have an idea of what I will do, but it will be my little way of remembering her and passing on her memory.

Well.... I got a little of topic there, but I wanted to mention something about her and what has been going though my head. Blogging at times for me is a way to vent, so there you have it...

Tonight I participated in my 1st SHOP LIVE event thought ETSY! This event featured 30 products, 30 Etsians, and in 30 minutes (items were all at a discount and some with free shipping). I would highly suggest attending the next one, which I will try to post when I find out. The host, Marichelle, did a wonderful job!

I have fellow Etsian, Savor, to thank for my finding this event because they twittered about the event right before it started. I did make a purchase (seen up top) from Savor, who was a HUGE supporter of me when I was going though my rough patch. Check out Savor's shop and the limited sale price of their Coconut Mochi Cream Fraiche in their Etsy shop! 12 left when I last looked (I was the 1st!).

For the Photo of the Day, I have chosen a recent purchase of mine from a local craft fair I was a part of.

This "Italia" alphabet art was created by Artsy Alphabet by Steph. Since I am creating a black and white Italy theme in my guest restroom, I wanted the frame/artwork to fit the look I was going for. I chose the letters from a large selection of styles, fonts, and type taken by Steph Wilcoxen. They assembled the frame and my photo choices within a matter of minutes and I was free to take it with me right then and there!

Prices are very reasonable. I paid $20 for 5-6 letters. 3-4 Letters is only $15. 9-10 Letters, $30.

On YouTube For the First Time...

So many of you know that Eric and I bought our first home! We had a really great experience through Tom Endicott and TeamEndicott (Remax)! They have asked us to be interviewed for a video that is now up on their site! It is my YouTube debut, so tell me what you think!

PS.. My Hair is REALLY long. I need to cut it. I was growing it out for my June wedding, but I think I have grown it out enough. I cannot wait to chop it all off back to my chin!

So, I got onto the Heart-O-Matic yesterday to check my hearts, views, stats, etc. They replaced the "Coming Soon" tag with a "Featured Tag. This new tag tracks when you are on the front page of Etsy and if you are in any gift guides. According to a thread I was reading, they are adding another feature as well (hum.... maybe a treasury feature tacking link). Anyways... I wanted to share that with those who have not checked out the site recently!

ETSY ARTIST FEATURE #7: Edamamepress

Happy Saturday everyone!

I wanted to share one of the neatest printmaking shops I have seen in a while! As you know, printmaking is my second love, although my shop does not reflect that as much as I would like it to, so I could not take my eyes off of the original prints that are displayed in this shop!

Edamamepress has a range of different printmaking techniques she uses such as woodcuts, papercuts, and monotype prints. There is also a nice price range for her colorful works. One thing I like is that she has framed prints available for your hanging pleasure, but also offers her prints unframed if you contact her.

I really enjoy her tree prints. I especially like the Forest at Night (see in the featured picture above). Her black and white prints are stunning and the line quality and details is what makes her prints so spectacular. I am an ACEO collector and I also collect for my elementary art students. I LOVE this ACEO!
